These girls are from
Lake Bosumtwi, 32 km southeast of Kumasi where we will
be. It is the largest natural lake in Ghana.
There are countless villages sur - rounding the lake.
Although all of the villagers swim in the lake (you can see them
in the picture), fresh water swimming in Africa is a no - no for
foreigners, as the parasite schistosomiasis (also known as
bilharzia) runs rampant (it is the second most common
tropical disease after malaria). |
