| Q: Ectopic pregnancy I just had an ectopic pregnancy. I have to go for an HSG and was interested in finding out about the oil-soluble. Also I only have the one tube and the doctor was able to save it. They want me to wait 2 menstrual cycles before having the HSG and I am worried that if I wait to long scar tissue will form again in the tube. She said she cleaned it out. Please help if you can. A:
After surgery, initial inflammation resolves in 6 to 12-18 weeks. Women with a single remaining tube have a 58%-65%
chance of an intrauterine pregnancy at 36 months. |

| Q: Hemolytic
disease I really hope you can help me. My second son was born with hemolytic disease of the newborn. It was discovered at 28wks gestation. He only required one transfusion an hour after birth and one week in the NICU. My specialist advised me to "tie tubes" after he was born but we really want to try to have one more; a daughter. The specialist stated to see him the first day I get pregnant. The NICU specialist that took care of my son stated if I had a third baby (second affected) that he would be "OK" but he would probably have to have 2 transfusions, 2 wks in the NICU and be induced a little earlier. I was hoping to get your input since I was told 2 different views. My specialist said there wasn't much research being done because this is so rare. This was in 1996. Can you please direct me to more information or let me know my options? I'm from NJ and I'm not sure of any other specialists such as yourself that are constantly researching this disease and treatments and not just prevention. Thank you so much. A:
Hemolytic disease of the newborn is caused by incompatibility between maternal and fetal red blood cells (RBC).
If the fetus has a Rh positive (Rh+) RBC and the mother has Rh negative (Rh-) RBC, she becomes immunized by exposure
to Rh+ fetal RBC with the production of antibodies that react with fetal RBC causing hemolytic disease. If your
third baby is Rh+ , he can be affected. |

| Q: Cushing's

| Q: Pregnancy without
Penetration? My boyfriend had an ejaculation one night. Though his penis never penetrated, the semen did contact my genital area. This is the first serious relationship my boyfriend and I have been in - STDs aren't my main concern. I realize that there is a possibility that I might be pregnant - but how likely is the pregnancy without penetration? A: It's unlikely
but not impossible. |

| Q:
Ectopic Pregnancy? I had my period last month was May 1st through the 5th. This month, on June 9th I started with some bleeding but it was only spotting every time I used the restroom. I would bleed only when I urinated but it was not coming from my urine, it was coming from my vagina. I would go through the whole day without bleeding except for when urinating. I went to my doctor and he did a pregnancy test which was negative. He told me my cervix was big and swollen, could it be that I may be pregnant? He also said that I may have an ectopic pregnancy. I had a tubal ligation 3 years ago. I've been experiencing spotting, cramping, abdominal pain and spotting for the past 5 days. A: Yes, you could
have an ectopic pregnancy. Go to your OB for further evaluation. |

| Q: Infertility? We have been planning a second pregnancy for 1 year now. We have a four year old and I got off the pill a year ago. My question is should I begin to panic? A: Do not panic.
It's time to go to the Ob for guidance. It does not look like you are a high risk couple for infertility. |

| Q: Early Pregnancy
Spotting I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I've had spotting (dark brown) for about 7 days now, I called my doctor today and he wasn't able to get back to me yet. On the 5th day, my husband and I had sex, and we did a lot of running, shopping, walking to get ready for our 1 year olds birthday party. The party was on the 6th day, lots of activity. For the last day and 1/2 (6 & 7 day) there has been more spotting (little heavier) and on today (7th) some of it is a bit lighter that what I've had and I'm getting worried. I'm working short term, for 2 weeks, this is the 2nd week, otherwise I'm an at home mom. I've felt very tired lately, not very hungry, some nausea, no vomiting, no cramps whatsoever. A:
You need to visit your OB and also get a ultrasound. |
