My Weekend with Granddaughter Sarah
(aka I Had A Wonderful Time!!!)

Hi OBGYN.netters,

Easter and Passover are behind us and it's back to work as usual for us at OBGYN.net.. As most of you know I slipped out of town for the long holiday weekend. I drove to Dallas on Thursday and stayed with a dear girlfriend of twenty years. Another dislocated Yankee like myself! We had a great time and made our twenty hours together seem like longer. We went out to dinner, (always the same place) and had our "girl time" together. It sure is good to see those old friendly faces again.

Friday morning I had my Big Appointment for my checkup with Gabe Shapiro my Oncologist and he proudly announced, "I am bored with you"! Of course in onc talk that means I'm doing great!

Off I went to my youngest daughter, Karen's' home to pick up my "sweetie" ..Sarah, my one and only about to-be seven year old Grand-daughter. This is the little girl that I shared a house with during my treatments last year. We had made arrangements, Mom and I, for just the two of us to sneak off on an adventure alone. Sarah was ready.. beautiful dress and bow in her hair. This was to soon change. As soon as we were in the car she redressed into fun cloths. Remember, this was an Adventure we were going on..

First stop was lunch as we had to figure out "just Where are we going".?? We had no plans and after getting some ideas from her, such as an Indoor Pool, Cowboys, The Country, and then at my suggestion, Six Flags Amusement Park we had our plan!

Next stop the Mall to get Mimi a bathing suit. Sarah picked it out and off we went to the toy store. There she found the dream present. An Elvis & Priscilla Doll! At $75.00 I of course said no; but I did promise it for her birthday next month. Hey guys do I get any credit I did buy a Barbie for her..

We drove 20 miles away to Arlington, TX. the land of tourist entertainment. Sarah changed immediately into her bathing suit as I drove along the highway, enough of her "pretty clothes" for her. According to my traveling buddy it was time for some serious fun-time and she had to get in the mood. We found a Radisson Hotel with a suite.. It had a living room...a king-size bed.. boxes of soap.. two TV's and just about Everything a little girl could want including an Indoor Pool. She was beside herself with joy. Needless to say this was the start of one wonderful weekend for Mimi. (in case you are not familiar with "Mimi", it's the Texas version of Grand-mother.) We had everything two gals could ask for, free drinks for me free sodas for Sarah, breakfast in the morning, what else could we want?

Next morning we set off on our Free Trolley to Six Flags. Just the Girls. I had mentioned earlier that we should both wear bright colored clothing so we wouldn't lose each other in the crowd and she said, "Mimi, I'm not leaving your side for a minute"! Great little girl.. We had a Wonderful Day holding hands and laughing at everything. In fact we both got tired at about the same time so off we went to our hotel for an evening of swimming. Sarah had her third meal of Chicken Fingers. "The only thing I like Mimi"!

I found out this little gal knew a lot about Elvis, and she was amazed to find out I had seen him Live on TV the very first time he ever appeared. I shared my knowledge of his life and tragic end and how I had actually stopped by his home in Memphis twenty years ago on my move to Texas when her Mother was her age. We sang old Elvis songs and danced the crazy way he did and had such a good time.

Sunday we just lazed around and got a late checkout and finally left our Honeymoon Hotel as we came to call it, and drove the short distance back to The Big "D".

Twenty miles and a million miles at the same time. We had a fantastic three days together and stored up a life-time of memories. I got to be a child again and Sarah got to be a Big Women in a hotel. A wonderful time was had by all, especially Mimi...

It's good to do something silly and different and off the wall once in awhile and most of all it's even better to do it with someone who loves you.
