Hi OBGYN.netters,
First off let me explain that this is supposed to be a happy, funny Reflections; so no flames please.. I will explain the title later in this titillating post. As you read this try to remember that we really do work! But all work and no play makes Roberta and Barbara dull girls. We have been called many things ; but Never Dull!
A few nights ago, Roberta and I were sitting around with so much work to do we decided to do "Nothing At All But Play"...Sounded like a good idea to us! Sis and I were talking about writing our columns every week and did anyone actually read them. Being the computer expert that she is, Roberta started bringing up my Reflections and her Ramblings to see Who has the biggest following....Just a little sister competition thing here.. Of course she won all of months! The only time I even came close was if I wrote to everyone I know including posting on the forum begging people to read mine. Such a pitiful thing to do I know; but I have been known to do almost Anything to get more attention then Sis!
We really began to feel sad and unloved and became just plain pitiful, if you want to know the truth of it. I had come to the conclusion that my career as a writer, published on the Internet was just about over... AND I had only just started! It seemed I have a small handful of devoted followers...YOU, that read what I slave over every week for the Update. "What can I to do to beef these numbers up", I asked myself? So, I start to think like an OBGYN.netter... What subjects were of interest to you? How could I catch your eye as you scroll down the Home Page? I was beginning to get really into it. I Had to find a way to beat that sister of mine. Just Once, would be enough. After all I didn't want to make this a new lifetime job. I do have a life you know!
Then I was given the clue to what makes folks read an article! Dear Sis had continued her quest and came up with the answer. Alta Vista and all those other Search Engines pick up on key words and add them to those wonderful places that we all go for information...Now my beady little brain started working again. I got a thought; or was it you again, Sis that mentioned this? Heck I never seem to be able to beat that gal at anything.
Well, after wasting a hour or two on this little project we came to the realization that the Only articles that get a lot of readers have one of those title words in it. So....Barbara Ann says to herself, "if I enter every word that any women would ever be looking up I have a great chance of being Hit On"... (Is that the word I really want to use here)? I wouldn't mind being hit on after all these years but fat chance of that! Oh well, I am a sorry son of a gun and desperate to boot; (for readers not lechers) and to beat Sis at least ONCE... so I am trying it this week and maybe it will prove something. If not my days as a columnist are numbered. Fear Not, Ellen Goodman or Molly Ivans, I won't be taking over your jobs soon. Of course I'll let you know next week how it turns out.
I started to write my column yesterday about my 2nd anniversary, this week, since my breast cancer surgery. It got so sad and self serving I had to delete it. I had re-read my earlier Reflections, "My Journey With Breast Cancer" and decided I was doing so good now I just wanted to put that period of my life where it belongs, behind me...I remember it and I always will but; it is past history in my life and time to move on and beyond. I am thankful that I have come to this place in my life.
Have a little fun this week and Try to get a little work done too.
Love,
Barbara
