I took this picture in 1989 while I was working for one year in the regional hospital of Saint-Louis, Senegal.

The patient was a grand multipara (8 or 10 as far as I remember), about 42 years old and presented with a long history of abdominal pain. She had regular menses without abnormal bleeding. The properative check-up was limited to clinical examination.

The surgical procedure was rather simple since the fibroids were mostly situated in the fundus, whereas the cervix and isthmus were free. A total hysterectomy without adnexectomy was performed. The postoperative course was uneventful.

One month after the operation, the patient was well and relieved. I never saw her again.
