The patient is a 22 year old woman in her first pregnancy. The CRL showed an 8 week 5 day baby with heart rate of 176bpm.

| Ultrasound Findings: | ||||
|
The oval, anechoic areas on either side of the spine are something my colleagues and I have not encountered before. It was difficult to discern definitively whether they are within the thorax or abdomen. I could not define the diaphragm. The renal arteries were not seen. All other aspects of the pregnancy appeared within normal limits.

| Follow-up: | ||||
|
I would like to hear if anyone has any ideas as to the significance of these findings. The girl has been referred for follow-up at a tertiary referral centre. |
