Ultrasound Interactive Case Study: Fetal Intra-abdominal Mass

Case presentation by: Pablo D'Angelo, Buenos Aires, Argentina - October 2000

History
33wk female fetus with a 4cm intra-abdominal cystic mass.

Ultrasound Findings
No other associated anomalies or ascites were seen. The mass lies below the stomach (seen in the coronal picture of the fetal abdomen) and seems independent from the kidney. Distinctive features include hyperechoic wall, and fluid-fluid level which may help in narrowing the differential diagnoses.
