Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association picks date for 2001 Conference

This year has seen an unprecedented amount of coverage in the media of PCOS and its effects. Feature  articles in Woman's Day and Ladies Home Journal. Mentions in articles and columns in Redbook, Seventeen, and a host of local newspapers and news programs. Leeza Gibbons doing the first ever talk show coverage of PCOS. The publication of the first patient-oriented books about PCOS. And of course the creation of the PCOS Pavilion at OBGYN.net.

But even with all the media attention that has happened over the last ten months, we still have a long, long ways to go.

The Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association is celebrating all that has been accomplished in the year 2000 with a PCOS Awareness Celebration. PCOSA kicked off the celebration with a chat at childofmydreams.com that featured Richard Legro, MD.

During the awareness campaign, PCOSA will give away a number of different prizes to people who donate to the organization and become members during the celebration. Prizes include copies of Samuel Thatcher's PCOS: The Hidden Epidemic, Angela Boss and Evelina Sterling's Living with PCOS, video tapes from last year's conference, and PCOS pins. You can find out more by visiting the Celebrate PCOS Awareness Page at the PCOSupport Web Site.

You can help raise awareness on the OBGYN.net site by adding your name to the PCOS Pavilion Quilt. Since its inception this year, over 800 women have put their stories up!

The Cysterhood Web Page is also helping celebrate PCOS Awareness by linking to the PCOSA page and opening a new section called Cysterkids. This section will feature the children of PCOS women to give hope to others that they can be moms through childbirth or adoption. The site will also continue in its original goal of putting names and faces to PCOS.
