Designer estrogens, SERMS, are two terms currently being used to describe the actions of a medication that acts as an estrogen on one tissue and an anti-estrogen on others. The ideal estrogen medication would switch of or off the effects of estrogen at different sites in the woman's body.

One of the marvels of medical research and advancement is the dramatic increase in the life expectancy of human beings. Humans did not, on average, live older than their 40's till just this century. With the discovery of antibiotics, the understanding of the importance of hygiene and sociologic development of water treatment and disposal of waste products we have seen life expectancies soar into the eighties.
