Biography:

A graduate of the University of Georgia with an AB in Psychology and a Masters degree in Clinical and Biopsychology, Dr. Tom Lyons earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado. His clinical practice is the Center for Women’s Care & Reproductive Surgery in Atlanta.

An Endoscopic pioneer, Dr. Lyons developed the Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy in 1989. It leaves the cervix intact as a keystone support to the anatomy and may improve sexual function post-surgery.

He performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic (in-office) myomectomy for fibroid removal as well as ExAblate, an MRI-guided ultrasonic fibroid ablation.

Co-author of WHAT TO DO WHEN THE DOCTOR SAYS IT’S ENDOMETRIOSIS, Dr. Lyons helps dispel the myths of endometriosis and hysterectomy and explains why an endo diagnosis does not always mean infertility.

Discerning patients come to him for treatment from as far as Tokyo, Moscow, Buenos Aires and Madrid, and he has trained thousand of doctors around the world in the minimally-invasive procedures he has developed, including the Laparoscopic Burch procedure for urinary incontinence.

He was among six former scholar-athletes honored as a recipient of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in 1996, for those who have distinguished themselves in their careers 25 years after graduation. In September 1999, he was inducted into the University of Georgia’s Circle of Honor, the highest tribute paid to former Bulldogs athletes and coaches. In October 2002, Dr. Lyons received the Hartman Award in recognition of his accomplishments and service to UGA post graduation.
