David Wiseman is a recognized and accomplished expert in the science and business of prevention of surgical adhesions. Having worked or consulted for some twenty companies working in adhesion prevention, Dr. Wiseman has played a prominent role in the development of a number of adhesion prevention products such as INTERCEED Barrier and INTERGEL.

Dr. Wiseman has authored numerous articles and presentations at learned societies in the area of surgical adhesions, has served as a reviewer for a number of prominent journals and recently co-chaired a national conference on the science and business of surgical adhesions. Dr. Wiseman was also invited to become a reviewer in the area of adhesion prevention for the Cochrane Collaboration.

Dr. Wiseman is the Founder and President of SYNECHION, INC., a consulting and development company specializing in products for preventing post-surgical adhesions. He is also working on the establishment of a support society for patients with surgical adhesions.

Prior to founding SYNECHION, INC., Dr. Wiseman held positions of increasing responsibility in the Surgical Adhesions programs of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, culminating in his appointment as Program Leader for clinical and preclinical programs in Surgical Adhesions. For his contributions and extensive research in the area of surgical adhesions and their prevention, Dr. Wiseman was recognized as one of only 60 Research Fellows within the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.


He has contributed chapters to several books and co-edited the Handbook of Biodegradable Polymers, published recently.


Dr. Wiseman graduated from the University of Manchester with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy and First Class Honours in Pharmacology. He received his doctorate from the same university in Cell Biology/Experimental Pathology and, under a Welcome Foundation Traveling Scholarship, became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University. His doctoral and post-doctoral studies were in angiogenesis, macrophage and lymphocyte function. Dr. Wiseman is a pharmacist, a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical
