Biography
Anthony M. Vintzileos is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Vintzileos received his medical degree from Athens University Medical School in Athens, Greece in 1975, and he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1981 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. He completed his Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut in 1983, and continued as a member of faculty of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine as an Assistant Professor, 1983-1986. He was an Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics 1984-1990; and he was named Associate Professor in 1986 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Professor in 1990. He was the recipient of the Physicians Health Services Endowed Chair in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 1992. Dr. Vintzileos joined the faculty of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1993 and became Director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics.

Dr. Vintzileos is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is certified by the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, ABOG. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Medical Association, International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society, American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, International Society of Perinatal Obstetricians, Society of Gynecologic Investigation, New Jersey Obstetrics and Gynecology Society, and the National Perinatal Association. In recognition of his academic contributions, he was given the award for “Outstanding Individual Contributor” by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 1998 and an award of Research Excellence also by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 2001.

In addition to his service on numerous academic committees, Dr. Vintzileos has served on national review panels, study sections, and committees, including: Electronic Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring: Research Guidelines for Interpretations, National Institutes of Health, NICHD Parts I and II, 1995; National Institutes of Health Perinatology Branch, Advisory Board member; LMS Medical Systems Scientific Advisory Board member; and Federation Interntionale de Gynecologie et d’Obstetrique (FIGO), (English) International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Member of Expert Advisory Panel on Ultrasound.

Dr. Vintzileos has authored and co-authored over 276 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics related to maternal-fetal medicine, fetal behavior and obstetrical ultrasonography. He is a member of the editorial board for medical journals including Journal of Clinical Ultrasound; Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Diagnosis Section-Editor; Journal of Maternal-Fetal Medicine; European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology; Journal Perinatologia y Reproduction Humana; Journal of Hellenic Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Gynecology and Obstetrics (Greek Peer Reviewed Journal); and Journal of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Investigation. He consults for numerous peer-reviewed OB/GYN journals and has been recognized as a top reviewer for Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1998, 2000 and 2003. He often lectures as a Visiting Professor at universities, medical institutions, symposiums, and various maternal-fetal medicine and ultrasound societies here in the U.S. and abroad.
