OBGYN.net Spotlight
The Society for the Study of Fertility exists to promote scientific research into the reproductive systems and fertility of humans and other animals.
SSF's Leigh Silvester shared these insights with us.
OBGYN.net: How are you better serving your membership with Internet Technology?
Silvester: We publish the Society's newsletter, which is available in EPS and PDF formats, which is especially popular with overseas members for whom normal mail is very slow; we provide links to useful facilities including conference sites; we provide access to information that might not normally find space within the Society's printed newsletter.
OBGYN.net: Why did you decide to build a web site?
Silvester: It began as an experiment to provide a more flexible system for members of the Society to be informed of relevant events and resources and to communicate with each other.
OBGYN.net: When was your site launched?
Silvester: Our site was launched in June 1996.
OBGYN.net: What has been the greatest advantage in using the Internet?
Silvester: Global access to instantly updatable information.
OBGYN.net: What are the future goals of your organization on the Internet?
Silvester: We hope to have a searchable database of all members' email addresses; develop a more user-friendly discussion forum.
