The American College of Physician Executives (ACPE)

ACPE's Director of Information Development, Susan Quinn, shared these insights with us.

OBGYN.net: What is the mission of your association?

Mitchelle: The American College of Physician Executives offers a broad array of resources to assist physicians in gaining medical management knowledge and skills. Our resources are aimed at helping physicians understand medical management, to analyze why and how they would make the shift from clinical practice to management, and to become successful managers once the career decision has been made.

OBGYN.net: Please tell us about your membership.

Mitchelle: Membership is granted to licensed allopathic or osteopathic physicians who have responsibilities in health care management or administration, or who have an interest in pursuing management opportunities.

OBGYN.net: How are you better serving your membership with Internet Technology?

Mitchelle Our web site was developed as a member service. It provides up to the minute information on what*s new at ACPE, career opportunities, new programs and publications. Members can register for courses, order publications, and even recruit new members with our online membership form. The ability to take certificate tests online is the most popular service on the site.

OBGYN.net: Why did you decide to build a web site?

Dr. van Hall We recognize the need to provide means of communications for our members in the medium of their choice. As more of our members become computer literate and realize how easy it is to communicate and network electronically we wanted to be prepared to deliver the information they need in the way they want it.

OBGYN.net: When was your site launched?

Mitchelle January, 1996

OBGYN.net: What has been the greatest advantage in using the Internet?

Mitchelle The greatest advantage in using the Internet is that it is available anywhere at any time.

OBGYN.net: What is the future goals of your organization on the Internet?

Dr. van Hall We would like to add a members-only section and to our web site. Within that area we would like to offer topically-oriented discussion Forums and, perhaps, full text articles from the Physician Executive Journal of Management*.and who knows what else the Internet will be able to do in the next year!
