OBGYN.net Spotlight
The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL)
AAGL has been an active participant on the Internet for some time now. We also noticed AAGL using OBGYN.net very early in our development. They post calendar events, and submit articles regularly. We sure like what they are doing and want to share a little more about them with you.
AAGL's Chairman of the Board, Jordan M. Phillips, M.D., shared these insights with us.
OBGYN.net How are you better serving your membership with Internet Technology?
Dr. Phillips This history and legacy of the AAGL has always been to further promote high standards of health care for women. Our on-line technology is just another approach to integrating and supplying the necessary resources to physicians and patients in reaching that goal.
OBGYN.net Why did you decide to build a web site?
Dr. Phillips Of course, as technology began to transition into medicine and, more specific, gynecologic endoscopy, it wasn’t a matter of why but HOW and WHEN. Our board and staff collectively agreed that a web page would provide a shared educational resource for all the different entities involved with endoscopy.
OBGYN.net When was your site launched and how was it developed?
Dr. Phillips We incorporated the thoughts and direction of the AAGL board, combined them with an enthusiastic staff, under the direction of Kevin Evans, webmaster, and researched how our message would be most effectively transmitted. It is truly a masterful confluence of education, information and convenience.
OBGYN.net What has been the greatest advantage in using the Internet?
Dr. Phillips Simply stated, GLOBAL. We can now reach modem-equipped surgeons on the opposite side of the globe. Literally, at any time a physician can visit our site and access past literature from the Journal of the AAGL as well as register for a CME conference in their area. The Internet allows for another method of contact and its fluid transition of information.
OBGYN.net What is the future goals of your organization on the Internet?
Dr. Phillips Our web site will continue to develop and evolve along with technology. Users can expect more comprehensive Journal access, news, leadership profiles and sponsored interactive events.
