STUDY GROUPS:

During recent years, EAPM has promoted the creation of study groups, with special weight to the European situation, which are aimed at specific targets in order to define regulations, standardisation of protocols, to evaluate risks/benefits when using technologies or special treatments. Each study group is coordinated by one or two chairmen and comprises about 10-15 experts chosen from different countries who prepare a draft document jointly to be discussed at a meeting to which a further 15-20 observers are usually invited.

The current Study Groups are as follows:

  • Standardisation of Birth Certificates and Perinatal Death Certificates, chaired by K. Marsal (Sweden) and J. Langhoff-Roos (Denmark)
  • Lifestyle and Environmental Influences During Pregnancy and Outcome of Children, chaired by J. Koppe (Netherlands)
  • Prevention of Preterm Birth, chaired by N. Patel (UK) and E. Papiernik (France)
  • Prenatal Diagnosis chaired by J. Carrera (Spain) and G.C. Di Renzo (Italy)
  • Perinatal Biotechnology chaired by E.V. Cosmi (Italy)
  • Perinatal Transports chaired by G. Sedin (Sweden)
  • Nutrition in the Perinatal Period chaired by G. Putet (France), L. Weaver (UK) and T. Hendriksen (Norway)
  • Perinatal Pathology chaired by R. Laurini (Switzerland) and A. J. Barson (UK)
  • Perinatal Behaviour, chaired by G.H.A. Visser (Netherlands) and J. Murphy (Ireland)

WINTER AND SUMMER COURSES OF THE EUROPEAN SCHOOL OF PERINATAL MEDICINE

The European School of Perinatal Medicine provides a comprehensive introduction to the science and practice of perinatal medicine. It is designed to address the needs of a clinician who has some experience in perinatal medicine but needs additional knowledge and practice in both obstetrics and neonatology. By completing the proposed program participants will gain the experience and confidence to continue the learned experiences after returning to their work sites. The Courses are held annually in Dubrovnik (Croatia) the first week of June and in Ortisei – St. Ulrich (Italy) the last week of January
http://www.med.unipg.it/EAPMcourse.html

The program is designed as a tutorial and review which will permit participants to verify that their knowledge is current or to identify areas where their practices may be improved.

European School of Perinatal Medicine utilizes a unique combination of educational methods. In addition to lectures by a luminary faculty the course features:

  • two separate tracks (obstetrics and neonatology) to meet the needs of all participants
  • deductive sessions covering topics of interest in perinatology
  • video case reviews with audience participation
  • evening colloquia and discussion with lecturers of the day
