Experience and Interest
Robert L Worthington-Kirsch, MD was raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He attended MIT, from which he received Bachelors Degrees in Molecular Biology and Comparative Western Religion (minor in Ancient and Medieval European History). He then attended Medical School at the University of Massachusetts, receiving his MD in 1986. During his Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in the Philadelphia area Dr Worthington-Kirsch discovered his passion for Interventional Radiology. He is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Subspecialty Certified in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Dr Worthington-Kirsch has been in practice in the Philadelphia area since 1990, concentrating on IR. He went into solo private practice of Interventional Radiology in 2002, with his practice titled Image Guided Surgery Associates. His main areas of practice are in fibroid embolization, treatment of superficial venous insufficiency, permanent birth control for women, and other IR procedures. Dr Worthington-Kirsch has been actively involved in research surrounding fibroid embolotherapy since 1996, and has the largest single operator experience with the procedure in the world.
Dr Worthington-Kirsch has also been active in his professional society. He served on the UAE Task Force of the Society of Interventional Radiology since its inception, and continues to serve on SIR’s UAE Advisory Council. He was one of the designers of the FIBROID Registry, and continues to serve on its Steering Committee. He also serves on the Venous Forum of the SIR. He is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology, of the American Society of Angiology, and a candidate for Fellowship in the CIRSE. He has given numerous invited presentations and scientific papers at the meetings of the SIR, CIRSE, and other Societies.
Dr Worthington-Kirsch and his wife of 24 years have 5 children, the oldest of
whom is recently engaged to be married, and several pets. He serves as the Mohel
for his local congregation, and is Chairman of the International Messianic Brit
Milah Board. He also is a dedicated fly-fisherman in both fresh- and salt-water.
