Experience and Interest:
At the Alfred Hospital I am currently the Professor and Director of Radiology. This is a Campus Hospital of the Monash Medical School of 340 beds with major emphasis on trauma, transplantation, cancer and haematology. The department is fully accredited by the RANZCR for registrar training and for the stage II accreditation as a Radiology practice. The Department comprises state of the art equipment and dedicated staff in three separate locations within the Alfred Campus. Our department is a reference site for many companies involved in health care and interventional radiology. I have implemented a film-less (PACS) radiology service with full voice recognition transcription.
I have research interests in carbon dioxide angiography, thrombolysis, arterial stents, stent grafts and telemedicine, particularly automated image analysis and teleradiology.
In 2005 the Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia honoured me by naming a prize for the best presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting - the “Ken Thomson Award”.
Through our Asia-Pacific Society I am committed to the expansion of interventional radiology training and education in the Asia-Pacific region . I was a participant in the Indonesia-Australia Special Training Project (Part II) and I shall be the President, AOSR for 2006 – 2008.
I have trained fellows in interventional radiology from Australia & New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Singapore, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
I was the Head of Interventional Radiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Network Chairman of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine (NWHCN) which provides comprehensive health care to more than 1 million persons in Melbourne. I have successfully completed a tender for supply of medical disposable items for angiography and interventional radiology for the NWHCN (Western & Royal Melbourne Hospitals).
As the Deputy Director of Radiology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital I had day to day management responsibility for over 100 persons and the Radiology budget. The environment consisted of DRG’s, case mix funding, transfer pricing and a constant change environment.
I was a senior partner in a private practice (Tress & Associates) I helped initiate and develop a successful relationship with the operator of the co-located private hospital.
I am an honorary radiologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre and credentialed at those hospitals for interventional cardiac and vascular radiology.
For 15 years I operated a private radiology practice part-time from rooms in Brunswick, Templestowe and Cheltenham and operated a cardiac and interventional angiography practice from Epworth Hospital.
When not working I can be found on the golf course (RMGC or The National) or in my woodwork studio.
