Hello OBGYN.netters,This week we have our first My Life In Medicine: Stories From The Heart and Soul, article. It was submitted by Dan Braun, MD and is entitled: Esther: A patient who taught much to a young resident physician.
This story touches my heart deeply because it is so honest. It is a beautiful yet sad story at the same time. Dr. Braun lets us see into his inner feelings as a young Resident in Indiana. He doesn't try to whitewash them with hindsight as is often so easy to do. It is a sad story but also a story of courage, faith, and hope.
It brought to mind one of my early Ramblings from March of 1997, Professional Detachment vs. Professional Investment in which several doctors and medical professionals shared their views on how they dealt with the emotional involvement that comes with the loss of a patient.
I hope you enjoy Dr. Braun's story as much as I did. If you have a story you would like to share please write to me. I am also interested in stories from the patients perspective about a special experience they had with someone in medicine.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Fondly,
Roberta
