Obstetrics

A 35 year old G2 P2 is noted to have severe shortness of breath and chest pain on postpartum day number 2. A ventilation/perfusion scan is performed and demonstrates a high probability of pulmonary embolism. Accordingly, the patient is started on heparin and later warfarin. She would like to continue breast-feeding and is concerned about the anticoagulant effect on the fetus. You inform her:

she can not breast-feed
the fetus will be anticoagulated
she can continue to breast-feeding
she should supplement half of the feedings with formula
none of the above
