- I had PCOS for 8 Years before detection
- I live in Yakima, Washington USA
I had irregular & heavy periods from the very beginning. I was an athlete and lots of us had only sporadic periods so it wasn't that unusual. After I was married about a year we decided to try to have a baby but my doctor said I had something called PCOS and I wouldn't be able to have children. I was just 20 and still a newlywed so it was so depressing. I kept feeling worse and worse emotionally & physically as I visited a variety of doctors. After one particularly painful exam with a doctor who suggested that I just go on BCP so I would have a cycle and stop worrying about getting pregnant I just gave up. I was sad as my friends all started having their families and I was left behind (plus I just felt miserable on top of it!). I stopped going to the doctor and started feeling better. Last year I finally went to a new doctor and am encouraged by what she said and all the new information I've found and am working to get healthy and fertile!
