OBGYN.net: How are you serving the Ob/Gyn community with Internet Technology?

Dr. Klein: I am currently the list-owner for OB-GYN-L, an internet discussion forum for medical professionals who care for female patients. I serve as the advisory board chairman for OBGYN.net and I am the editor of the OBGYN.net Journal Review. I co-moderate the newsgroup sci.med.obgyn.

OBGYN.net: Why did you get involved with the Internet?

Dr. Klein: My initial interest in the Internet came from reading about its possibilities for enhancing communication.

OBGYN.net: How long have you been using the Internet?

Dr. Klein: Five years.

OBGYN.net: What has been your greatest reward in using the Internet?

Dr. Klein: I have greatly expanded my knowledge of obstetrics and gynecology by interacting with others throughout the world. My patients have benefitted enormously.

OBGYN.net: How do you believe the Internet has changed the way you practice medicine?

Dr. Klein: I am more reliant on evidenced based care that I would have been had I not become involved in this discussion forum.

OBGYN.net: What is the future for the Ob/Gyn community on the Internet- what do you believe is possible?

Dr. Klein: The future is bright. I foresee online conferences with CME, journals publishing original articles exclusively in the electronic format, databases with patient records for care and research, collaborative projects for muticenter studies, direct communication with the experts in various fields for consultation and feedback, and enhanced doctor/patient communication.

OBGYN.net: Is there anything else you would like to share with the OBGYN.net readers?

Dr. Klein: The success of OBGYN.net can be traced to two required ingredients, the hard work of the folks at Elecomm and the devotion of the medical professionals who have committed time and energy. This is an endeavor that holds great promise for the future. Most of those involved have done so only out of a strong desire to see it come to fruition. To you all, my deepest thanks.
