Advancing Minimally Invasive Gynecology Worldwide (AAGL)
![]() |
OBGYN.net: How are you better serving the Ob/Gyn and Women's Health community with Internet Technology?
AAGL: On the side of medical professionals, we are better able to
inform physicians and other medical professionals of upcoming events,
courses and meetings relating to minimally invasive gynecology. In addition
to this, we have a “Physician’s Forum” section, where a dialogue on issues
in gynecologic surgery can be exchanged. Our website is also of service to
the general public. We post current information on gynecologic conditions
and treatment options, and also offer a “Patient’s Forum” section, where
individuals with specific questions can receive answers from a physician
member. Of equal service to both groups is our physician directory, where
patients can find a physician in their area.
OBGYN.net: How do you manage your
website? Is it managed internally or externally
AAGL: Our website is currently managed externally with some
amendments made internally.
OBGYN.net: What areas represent the
greatest opportunities for AAGL utilizing the Internet in the future? What
plans are on the horizon?
AAGL: The AAGL plans to include more streaming videos of surgical
procedures as well training sessions from workshops and courses that we
present. We also plan to offer CME online.
OBGYN.net: What have been your greatest
challenges in using the Internet?
AAGL: The biggest challenges have been keeping up with the constant
growth in interest and visitor activity, from both the patient and physician
audiences. As the AAGL’s website is increasingly utilized as a resource and
forum for discussion, we have to constantly be adapting our system to better
serve the community using it.
OBGYN.net: How do you believe the
Internet has changed the way you service your members?
AAGL: It has given us more opportunities to provide an increase in
the value of membership. In addition to being listed in the Physician’s
Directory, we offer all members the option of creating a free homepage on
our website. We also offer an online Video Journal to our members, as well
as other publications like News Scope, the official newsletter of the AAGL.
We also offer access online access to our Journal. At the Residents’ level
the internet has given us the opportunity to offer free membership to them,
which includes online access to the Journal of the AAGL.
OBGYN.net: What is the future of the
Ob/Gyn community on the internet – what do you believe is possible.
AAGL: We believe the future of the Ob/Gyn community on the internet
is to be able to provide an increased interaction between patient and
doctor. This has already begun to take place. Due to the internet, the
patient is now better informed of her condition and treatment options, and
has become a pro-active partner in her own healthcare.
