Present Appointment:
1.7.89. to 1.4.96  Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in Gynaecological Oncology, Grampian Health Board, Aberdeen.

1.4.96 to date  Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist, Aberdeen Royal Hospitals NHS Trust.

Until 1996 I provided, along with Dr H C Kitchener, the full range of Gynaecological Oncology activity including radical surgery and chemotherapy. Since his departure I have been able to further focus my activities to provide a completely centralised service.  I have also introduced endometrial resection to Aberdeen and since 1990 have been responsible for over 2500 endometrial ablations with a personal series of 1300 TCREs. During this time I have been responsible for many major randomised studies and the formulation of national guidelines.

RCOG Activities:
1990 -1995   District Tutor

1996 -  Regional Advisor

1996 -  Director Gynaecological Oncology subspecialty training

Previous Appointments:

Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Stobhill General Hospital, Glasgow.

August 1984 - July 1986  Working for Dr J A Davis. As this was a supra-regional centre for gynaecological oncology training was given in radical surgery and under supervision radical vulvectomies and radical hysterectomies were performed.

Research Registrar to Dr J A Davis (Gynaecological Oncology), Stobhill General Hospital, Glasgow.

January 1986 - May 1987  During this time I continued my training in gynaecological oncology attending all the theatre lists for further training in gynaecological oncology surgery. As my research was concerned with radiotherapy I received further training in the use and management of this treatment and its complications.

Senior Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, West Midlands Regional Health Authority, North Staffordshire Maternity Hospital, Stoke on Trent.

June 1987 - June 1989  In the field of gynaecology I had a very large general workload. I attended one general clinic per week and at least three operating lists. I performed an average of six major procedures per week including all the routine procedures. I expanded my experience of radical surgery and performed all of the radical hysterectomies and radical vulvectomies and many of the laparotomies for ovarian cancer during my time in Stoke.
